My brother is a welder. He learned the trade at a trade school and then went on to worked for several small companies. After that he got his confidence level up. Then he started working in small manufacturing jobs, welding horse trailers and then wreckers. There he learned a special type of welding and started getting specialized Government jobs. The sky is the limit. Just get the training and you can work just about anywhere.

California has a very vast pipelining system and requires welders every day! Focus on places that do a lot of metal work, and welders will compliment these industries beautifully! I'd take passion in that and focus on industry that compliments the work you want to get into
