What are the right steps to become a firefighter?>

I am currently a 10th grader at Hart High school wanting to persue one of my dream jobs of becoming part of the fire service. I am currently enrolled in a Fire Academy and I am loving it, but Covid-19 has turned our hands on learning to station tours with out instructors. With the information I receive for this question I will always keep that in mind and ask myself if what I am doing now is getting me closer to my goals. I am a very fit student, from playing club soccer to high school soccer and skating whenever I have free time. #firefighter #lafd #fireservice

Start as a volunteer for your local community. Make sure you are CPR certified and staying fit (good job playing soccer and skating!) For education, you need a high school diploma, but there is postsecondary training that you can look into. Most fire departments require the firefighters to become certified EMTs as well. There are local community colleges that you can take these courses from. The National Fire Protection Association offers the Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) designation to professionals dedicated to fire safety (www.nfpa.org). I was a certified EMT and I received this education through my college. If you do not intend to go to college, you should still look into your local community college for courses that will help you satisfy these requirements. It looks like you are on the right path! Good job!
