Robert’s Answer

While attending college I had two close friends murdered. One friend was from high school she was killed by a serial murderer. The other friend was from college and he was murdered by a stalker. I changed from advertising to criminology. My hope was to stop criminals before they hurt new victims

I am a nuclear medicine in CT technologist. I got into the industry 25 years ago and I've never regretted it. In nuclear medicine, you can specialize in one of several areas; nuclear cardiology, oncology PET, neurology PET, and radiation safety, for example. You can also be a generalist in a hospital type setting where you do a little bit of everything. The things I love about it are that it's challenging intellectually, you meet great and diverse people, and it's never dull. Depending on your specific employer and specialization, you might be more or less busy. You can also cross train. I got my CT license long after I became a nuclear medicine technologist but many programs are embedding this curriculum and you can get licensed for both right out of school.

I actually started out in respiratory therapy. Really good career for several years. I didn't like sitting at a desk. I liked thinking on my feet and using my mind. The more time I spent in the field the more I wanted to advance.

Elsy’s Answer

There are some different ways to discover your path, I studied Communication sciences but from a very young age I started teaching English, as it is not the native language in my country. After several years of working in media and teaching, I was asked to join a company in the technology area. I thought there was no way I would get interested in that or that I would learn anything abut IT, however all my skills and the things I was good at and made me happy were what kept me going and got me interested in learning more and more. Now I work in one of the greatest technology companies where I can use all my knowledge and aptitudes to do my best at it.

Jason’s Answer

I started my career as an undercover field investigator and fact-finder in the private sector. It's interesting work and challenging so it's a great way to get started and build some experience. I would make sure to have an exit plan as things may become more difficult over time with the work/life balance. Depending on your personal life goals, an agent may be the good fit or just the start of your career path.
