How hard is it to pay for college when you are 18 years old and live practically on your own?
I was having a hard time at home and i decided to move out and live with my friend and her family. I am about to graduate high school and i have no idea how in the world I'm going to afford my nursing career. #nursing #pediatric-nursing

Just a thought - I have heard about US students who moved to Germany to study as the quality of education is very high and the costs are very very low.
Could be a great adventure that will also give you lots of life skills.

Hi Delfa!
As someone who paid her own way through university and living expenses I would recommend the following:
- make sure you have done fafsa and added notes where applicable that you are independent from your parents. You may have to provide proof of emancipation for this.
- leverage your university's financial aid. Get on the phone with them every day and explain your situation and ask for more aid. Most times, the difference between two aid packages is just if the person on the phone that day was feeling extra generous.
- ask your high-school leadership for scholarships ! There are so many local and state scholarships that you can apply to and they usually go unnoticed so there isn't much competition for them.
- some universities have emergency funds that can help you pay for cost of new clothes, transportation, etc
- work throughout summer and save as much as you can to at the very least cover your day to day expenses. Also, of course, work part-time throughout school. I did this at a cafe with my best friends and it was the most fun I've had.
