It really depends person to person. Your skill set and experience play a big role in what you will be paid. As well as the location of the salon you work in. Obviously a hairstylist working at JCP makes less than a stylist in a popular salon in a big city. Networking can help you reach more high paying opportunities. Owning your own salon is not an unreasonable goal either and will result in higher pay. I have a friend who has been a hairstylist for about 6-7 years and is making $45,000 a year. It took her some time to reach this annual amount, but she is a very skilled and dedicated stylist.

If you're good at braiding and makeup you can make up to $200 per person? So you could earn a good living by doing a few appointments per day.
If you own a company that connects clients to hair professionals you could earn much more. :)
