Chi’s Answer

My daughter was selecting colleges last year. I found that many state universities are offering highly advanced computer science and technical majors.
Do some research with your state school. You might be surprised.

Peter’s Answer

it really depends on what is the end goal of being a research scientist, do you want to teach or do you want to work on the tech industry or you just want to solve some of the tougher problems in CS. most research scientist need a PHD degree, so are you ready for that? better schools like CMU/Stanford/UCB are extremely hard to get into but they definitely challenge you to solve the tough problems.
