Colby’s Answer

Hello!

I have read through the other answers and they all have great advice. I would also like to add that you should study another language, particularly Spanish or any other language heavily used in your community. It will make you more marketable in the future and indispensable with populations that may be underserved. Community service and pursuing any leadership opportunities in this area (Ex. Getting involved with your local Key Club or Interact Club) can also be helpful. Best of luck to you!

Sincerely,

Colby Stevens

Lynette’s Answer

Make sure you enjoy studying sciences and can think critically. This means taking classes that are challenging and not the easy road. You have to enjoy serving people, ie helping patients. Volunteering or finding a job at a nursing home or other health related opportunity is a good way to see if you like it. This will expose you to additional possibilities in health care that you have not yet considered. You will need persistence, hard work, and diligence to be successful in health care. Good luck!

Gloria’s Answer

Hi Claire,

The first question that I have for you is how you see yourself in the health science field. Do you want to be a nurse or doctor and interact with patients? Do you want to use your knowledge to create medicines or machinery to help patients? Your focus should be on areas where you would benefit you in the future. The subjects can include things like chemistry and biology.

samira’s Answer

First of all you need to feel that you want to help people because this is what healthcare is all about, then check your orientations, whether you like healing people, or making their treatments, that how you will choose between medicine, nursing or pharmacy, but if you are more oriented toward management than maybe healthcare administration would be the best choice.
