What do I need to major in or study to become a Sonographer ?

I am a student in high school, looking to see what job would be best for in the future. I was just wondering what I would need to do to become a sonographer.

If you know what you want to specialize in (its usually divided between general diagnostic sonography, and cardiovascular sonography), I would find a school that offers the one you are most interested in. Maybe it has changed, but when i went to school, they had cardiac totally separate from general sonography. If you are not sure what you want to specialize in, even after you are done with highschool, you could take your prerequisites at a different college, and then transfer to the sonography program once you are sure. I also volunteered at an imaging center, and sat in with the sonographer during exams. It ended up making the route I wanted to take crystal clear :)

I would check the community college or technical school in the area and see if they include ultrasound tech programs. They are usually 2- year degree sonography training program. I hope that helps to get you started :).
