Donna’s Answer

It is important to know what interest you academically and personally. Are you an on-going person that likes to interact with others, are you creative and wouldn't necessarily work in an environment that does not value creativity?

I think that is what internships and college is all about, finding out who you and what things you enjoy academically and personally. Any work experience / internships help you develop in these areas. Keep an open mind and pursue as many opportunities as you can in high school and college. The more you are exposed to, it will help you eliminate the areas that may not be the best fit for you.

Rita’s Answer

I agree with the previous response. I would start deciding what areas you are interested in pursuing. For example, I am working in medicine so I would try to volunteer at a doctor’s office and/or hospital and speak with physicians.

Tanique’s Answer

Hi Anderson,

That is such a great question. What are your areas of focus in high school?

Are you majoring in the sciences, the arts or business subjects? Look at what you are majoring in and then look at what it is you want to do after you leave high school.

Once you do that, then it would be easier to start researching and narrowing down industries and companies which you think will be a good fit for you. This way you can be more specific when it comes to looking at internships and career path.

I hope this helps to guide you further.

Tanique recommends the following next steps:

Feel free to write again when you have identified what are the areas you are majoring in.

Yes -As mentioned in the above discussions, finding what you like the most and starting from there .
If Tech is what you enjoy- you can start exploring courses on You tube to see what wonderful career opportunities we have ..and starting learning and getting hands-on the languages/tools.
If Medicine is what inspires , you can be a volunteer at the relevant Organizations/Offices.
If it is Law then accordingly.
If writing is what you like- You can go for Creative Writing.
