How do I become a veterinarian?

What would be the best universities for me to go to for becoming a veterinarian? And what would be the best things for me to do to be a aquatic veterinarian?

For you undergraduate degree, you can go anywhere! Just be aware of the requirements of each vet school as they may have particular classes you have to take in order to apply. Because veterinary school is a very expensive pathway, many people opt to take some of the basic courses at a local community college and then transfer to another university. The easiest path is to start at a school that has a veterinary school because they will likely have a pre-veterinary program that is easy to follow. The website linked below has a lot of great info about applying to vet schools.

As far as being an aquatic vet there is very little we are taught in school about fish and fish medicine, but I believe there were some programs and opportunities to do some aquatic medicine learning experiences. Likely for aquatic vet it will be a lot of on the job training, or your may need to seek and internship post veterinary graduation.

I agree with everything Kelly said above. To add to that, many aquariums take volunteers, and this would be a good way to get exposure and show interest in aquatic medicine. Coursework or internships in undergrad can also help you with this. Once in veterinary school, there are many ways to get experience through classwork, externships, or internships. In particular, Cornell University runs an internship program for veterinary students called AquaVet.
