It helps to have good grades in high school. Many schools also like to see that you are well-rounded, so working outside of school or playing sports or being in clubs, and volunteering can all be great things on an application. Some schools request some sort of essay with your application. Be sure to proof read it (or ask someone else to if English/writing aren’t your strong suit). Don’t use abbreviations or text language, use full words and complete sentences. Sometimes you can reach out to a college you are interested in and see if they have alumni they can hook you up with to learn more about the school. Sometimes a recommendation from someone who went there can be helpful. My alma mater will send alumni cards to give to people to wave the application fee as well.
