Wanna get into the gaming industry as an animator without a college degree if possible

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had an answer to my question. So basically I'm in college for digital animation as a freshman and I'm thinking about dropping out to just pursue animation purely and not do other courses. I love animating and it's really enjoyable and I would love to learn more. But my main question is can I get a job in the gaming industry ranging from AAA companies to indie companies without a college degree and just be self taught as long as I have a really nice portfolio I wanna practice on my own for a couple of years and get better on my own. So is it possible to get a job #computer-animation #nocollege #needhelp #video-games #gaming-industry #computer-gaming

Andrew’s Answer

Alex - if you do not have the desire or opportunity to get a degree at this time, look for opportunities to get any entry level position with a gaming company. Do not be discouraged if the position is a temporary contract one. This is often the case with beginning opportunities. Although it is ideal to get a remote work-from-home job, be open and ready to relocate when there is an opening.

Frank’s Answer

The simple answer is yes, if your really talented and your work speaks for itself you will be hired in the game industry.

If you plan to rise in the industry and take on a lead role, companies like to use people with diplomas and degrees behind their names, this is so the Jr people can validate the senior, on the other hand if you have made a name for yourself you could get above this.

So by dropping out you still can make it in the industry it just makes competing harder in the long run, if you are not at the top of your game.

Hope that helps

Cheers and all the best!
