Paul’s Answer

It basically allows our country to compete on an international level, and keeps us from descending into the depths of becoming a third world country.

We need education to continue our development. We need educational skills and training to keep our nation technologically on par with the chinese and other countries.

If our education system fails we will not be able to compete, our economy will not have skilled workers, and the democracy we know will eventually cease to function, because no one will have the knowledge on how to successfully maintain a republic.

We need education, because education is knowledge, and knowledge maintains our power and position in the world.

Michelle’s Answer

Hello, Davis !

School is important for the people who think it's important. School is a structured place in which you learn about various subjects, have the chance to express yourself, learn how to think and communicate. This prepares one for adulthood.

College is important to further one's growth in learning various subjects, especially a chosen major, sharpen and add to your communication skills and learn about yourself: your capabilities, your strengths and weaknesses, what you like and don't like. There is also the social aspect of school which is important, too. School prepares you for bringing out the best "you" that you can be. It's also important because it's expected. Education is usually considered when you look for work and even more so if you intend to have a professional career.

Many people are self taught and do not go to school or college and seem to do fine and are satisfied, but since school is one of the elements in culture that is expected, it is something that is generally considered of high importance. I hope that this explains it a little and hopefully more professionals will answer with additional perspectives on this important question.
