Connor’s Answer

Hi Alicia,

In terms of good courses to take in the business realm I will list a few:

Basics of Accounting
Basics of Finance
Basics of Marketing
Basics of Supply Chain
Basics of Entrepreneurship
Basics of Economics
Basics of Information Technology

Of these courses, I personally would recommend taking a class in accounting or supply chain. The root of every business is the financials and the money that they make and how they make it. Learning accounting really helps you understand where all the dollars in the business are getting accounted for and what that looks like all wound up together. Supply Chain is also a good course to take because you start to understand how businesses source their products or services and how that eventually leads to the end product or service that they sell. Supply Chain is the actual business chain used in order to sell something.

Additionally, if you have interest in a specific one of these topics then that would be a good starting place. Each one of them being a large piece of what makes up business in the following ways:

Finance: How to fund a business and how to use the money we make and source to create more money over time. How to handle financial decisions in a business

Marketing: How do we communicate to everyone what we are doing and why they need to have our business as part of their life.

Economics: How does the economy function as a larger piece of businesses. What are the factors that are external to businesses that can affect how successful they are or the decisions they make?

Information Technology: How does a business use technology to increase it's value and store it's data. How can information technology be utilized in business.

Entrepreneurship: What can I do personally to create a successful business?

Goodluck!
