Hi there,


you don't actually need years.You can start now.Take some singing lessons.If you are good,then you just become one.If you have never studied music before,I would suggest to go to a music college (4 years normally).Many singers though are self taught and talented and just worked hard.

The answer is 0. I've never heard of someone asking for a transcript to get a gig. The use of music school is two folds. One is it provides a structure and the proper motivation to develop your craft. Secondly in introduces you a to a lot of upcoming musicians and a few established ones that can help expand your community and ultimately get more gigs.
