Hi Destiny,

Aspiring obstetrics ultrasound technologists can choose from either an associate's degree or a bachelor's degree in obstetrics and gynecology ultrasound technology. In contrast, a bachelor's degree in obstetrics ultrasound technology takes four years to complete and requires students to take additional courses in areas such as physics, algebra and statistics. Most bachelor's degrees in general ultrasound cover topics in obstetrics and gynecology.

There is no need for a prospective student to search for a specialized course of training. Some of the courses specific to both degree programs cover topics such as abdominal ultrasound, obstetrics and gynecology ultrasound, legal and ethical issues, introduction to sonography and medical imaging.

Another important consideration for aspiring obstetrics ultrasound technologists is the ability to participate in an internship. Internships are commonly offered at the bachelor's degree level, but not necessarily at the associate degree. An internship provides students with an opportunity to gain practical obstetrics ultrasound experience with a hospital or health care agency.
