Is IB worth it?

I am in grade 10 and very soon I have to decide if I want to take IB or A levels, most people tell me IB is very hard and useless but people who took A levels say it was too easy, and wish they took IB. I want to be a dermatologist in the future as well.

Highest level possible is best. Dermatology is very competitive.

If I understand correctly from my nieces/nephews as well as reading up, IB requires students to study subjects across different areas, including languages, sciences, mathematics, as well as soft skills on creativity, research which can develop critical thinking & research skills.

In Singapore JC, Students typically choose couple of subjects to study in-depth, which can be beneficial if you have a clear idea of your interests. As your interest is into Dermatology, biology & chemistry are probably the specialization in subjects directly related to your future career choice.

To become a dermatologist or in any medical field, you'll need a strong foundation in sciences, particularly biology & chemistry.
The choice depends on your learning style & preferences. In addition, besides classroom education, seek volunteering/internship that can help you build a stronger resume for university applications. Universities conduct interviews & nothing beats real life experiences.

Hi, Sarah. I am not sure what the
US equivalent class levels are, but if you are hoping to enter the medical field, it's most likely beneficial to take the more difficult courses. You'll need to develop good study habits and be dedicated to difficult courses for the medical field, so this is the time to begin and discover if you are headed in the right direction. Other people's experiences may be very different than yours. Don't be afraid to challenge yourself.
Best to you!
