H Luvly,

Finding work at 13 can be a bit tricky, but there's still some cool stuff you can do in Cherokee, NC. Think about babysitting for neighbors, walking dogs, or helping with yard work like mowing lawns and raking leaves. You could also lend a hand with chores, tutor younger kids if you are good at a certain subject, or see if local events need extra help. Just be sure to check with your parents first to make sure it's all good. Have fun and good luck!

Hi Luvly - good for you for wanting to use your time productively! Rafael and Melanie have given you excellent advice, and I have only a few more points to share.
- Your teachers or school principal may have some work needs or contacts to share with you
- Similarly, there may be babysitting or other appropriate needs at your place of worship or your clergy may know of needs in the community
- I was not clear if earnings were the main motivation or gaining work experience were the main motivation for your question. As Melanie said, sometimes volunteering can lead to gaining important skills or knowledge that can lead to paid work. Also, volunteering can build your network which could also advance a future job search
- I put a link below to Indeed.com. Some of the results are poor matches but seeing the results over time helps you learn about the local job market and what potential jobs of interest are called.
I would reiterate what Rafael and Melanie said about preserving your health and safety. Make sure that whatever you do is age-appropriate and don't work so many hours that your health or schoolwork suffers. Good luck!

Hey there! Finding a job at 13 can be tough, but don’t worry—you’re already on the right track by looking early! While most jobs start hiring at 14 or 15, you can still find ways to earn money and gain experience.

✅ Babysitting – Parents always need reliable sitters.
✅ Dog Walking/Pet Sitting – A fun way to make extra cash.
✅ Yard Work & Odd Jobs – Mowing lawns, raking leaves, helping neighbors.
✅ Freelancing – If you're good at writing, designing, or coding, sites like Fiverr allow teens to start (with parental approval).
✅ Local Businesses – Some fast food places, grocery stores, and summer jobs start hiring at 14.

Good luck, you got this! 💪😊
