Where do I start offering free help once im done?

What will be the best way for me to get my name out there and offer free services for low income families once I finish my degree? I want to help people understand legal papers and help them fill them out.

Hi Amanda,

That's an amazing goal to help low-income families who don't have the resources to protect their rights.

Many law schools have a law clinic where people can get legal advice, and law students get some practice. It would be a first step towards your goal.

The American Bar Association as well as local organization run referral services for pro bono or low-cost work.

If you want to offer services to low-income families in your community, check with social workers, faith leaders, community leaders, immigrant leaders etc how to best make your services known.

I hope this helps! All the best!

Search for local pro bono opportunities in the area of law you prefer. Start with partnering with these organizations so you have a supervising attorney to give people the best assistance possible.

That's beautiful, Amanda, I hope you get your way with this work!
In addition to both lovely comments above I would tell you to embrace social media, in these modern days you can spread out your work and help by creating good content and sharing with the public. People are always consuming so much irrelevant content, it would be amazing to see nice information on legal papers on a more didactic way, using plain English and explaining difficult legal concepts to low income families so they can understand better their rights and obligations. Let's say consumer law & labor law for example - so, when I was a student we had a legal clinic in college and I would prepare and run presentations on these two areas and then would distribute a booklet as well so families could have information at hand). Wishing you all the very best!
