Joshua’s Answer

Take care of your body. Don't take risky moves that might cause a career-ending injury. Take care of your mind. Maintain respect in the community and support your community. Respect other players and your coaches and everyone else in the game. Keep your grades up and shoot for a college scholarship. Show up to every practice. Show up early. Lead your team, on the field and in life. Be willing to do what it takes. Know that every choice you make leads you towards your dream or away from it. Practice. Keep learning from what you're doing and pay attention to every detail. Be observant. Learn from other people's mistakes. Stay away from drama, risky situations, and bad neighborhoods. Good luck! This can happen for you.

Frank’s Answer

Hey Joshua - Good luck on your NFL pursuit! Three of the most important traits in the NFL today beyond your own positional abilities are size, strength, and speed. While you cannot control your height, you can control your strength and speed. These should be equally important to developing football skills, whatever your position may be. One important thing to keep in mind is that you need to build strength while maintaining your footwork and speed. This is true for any position - receivers, defensive linemen, and even offensive linemen. While they are also important for quarterbacks, focus on more decision making, passing accuracy and arm strength, in that order, if you play the position. If you do not make it to the NFL, there are more and more career opportunities to work in the game. While pursuing a playing career, start writing emails and letters to people who work for NFL teams, or the league office itself. This can help position you for a career in professional football if playing does not work out!
