Does anyone have knowledge of Mercy University, if it’s a good school with ratings, and do you have any information about its accelerated (weekend) nursing program?

Good afternoon my friends,

Hi 👋 I hope everyone has a great day today! So I’m continuing my on a BSN nursing program both accelerated and traditional. I’m more than will to apply to another traditional nursing program (I work full time, but, can take 2-3 days off for classes and clinical.) As for an accelerated program, unfortunately I haven’t found any that allows you to continue to work, and most of them seem to be full time day programs. Also, I haven’t been able to find either program that doesn’t require you to retake your prerequisite classes if they are more than 5 years old and some require an entrance exam. My old school had no entrance exam and I took my prerequisite classes with them, I went to school on T/W and clinical is whatever day is picked for you. (You all know what happened with my old school as I explained in previous posts; I did reapply again as I mentioned but it’s a no go to get into the program again, but, at least I still graduated with my BS in LA after I switched majors.

Now, I found out about Mercy University from a friend (3 campuses in Manhattan, The Bronx, and West Chester.) They have an accelerated weekend (Friday-Sunday) nursing program, no entrance exams required and there is no expiration date on prerequisite classes. You need to have a C+ or better on your prerequisite classes with a 2.8 GPA.

I believe this is the door God is opening for me because I have done such extensive research! I read some ratings and reviews, a couple of people said the program wasn’t the best, etc, while others gave good reviews. I’m feeling a little uneasy now reading this, but, my friend said you can’t go by everything people say. Some will be good, some not so good, she said that’s always the case when it comes to reviews and I haven’t to be the one to make the best decision for me.

So what do you think about what my friend said? Does anyone think it’s worth it for what I’m looking for? Does anyone have kid this school and it’s academic experience especially the nursing program? Lastly, if anyone knows of a traditional nursing program as I described that meets the criteria, can you recommend one? Even if it’s a private school, and though I live in Brooklyn, NY, I am willing to travel if need be no more than 2 hours going and coming. Thank you! 🙏 😊

Hello, Donna !

I knew a person that went to Mercy, not for Nursing, but the person never said one word about the college. I do remember that there was a time where Mercy College - now named Mercy University - used to have a lot of ads on television. You sound open to switching to a full time on campus set up, so I am not sure if you can or want to do that. You seem to have the plan to go to Mercy and work full time but are you asking for a different path ? You can only do what's doable. And unfortunately, Brooklyn College doesn't have a Nursing Program as you probably already know.

Your friend is right. It doesn't matter what other people have said about Mercy, it seems to fit in with your schedule and that makes it doable. I would advise one of the Manhattan locations, though. What did you get your Bachelors Degree in because I don't recognize the initials LA. Language Arts ?

It does seem that Mercy offers the flexibility and light requirements, so I think unless you want to quit your job (which I wouldn't advise) follow through with Mercy and take a tour/orientation of the campus so your questions will be answered. If you are still unsure of Mercy, look into LaGuardia Community College's Nursing Program if you haven't already. Whatever you choose, I'm sure you'll do well.

Best wishes in all you do !
