Any advice for an adult going back to school ?

I graduated high school in 2020. I am choosing to go back to school now because it finally feels right. I feel I have a direction and purpose. How do I keep the motivation I have now? Any tips on how to balance going to school while working full-time?

Starting again can feel overwhelming, but it's definitely possible. I went back to school for a postgraduate degree after working and starting a family, and I even taught as an adjunct professor to both new college students and working adults returning to school.

The secret to balancing everything is being prepared and knowing your learning style. It might be different from how your professor teaches or how you learned before. Be ready for change, prepare for classes ahead of time, and communicate openly with your professors. If you're struggling to understand something, let them know what you need to learn effectively.

The more you set aside time for studying and class preparation, the easier your daily routine will become. You already manage a busy schedule, so now it's about fitting this new chapter into your day. It might seem tough, but it can be done. Find a rhythm that works for you and your family, and be clear with them about the support you need. Happy learning!

Hi Bettina. Balancing school with a full-time job requires planning. You should make a weekly schedule that shows work hours, study time, and personal time. And, you need to treat study time as important appointments you cannot miss. Of course, you need to be realistic about how much time you can study each day, and focus on tasks that matter most, like exams or big projects.

It's also important to communicate openly with your employer and family. Some employers may offer flexible hours or support. Asking for help from family or friends can make a big difference, whether it's help at home or just encouragement. They give motivation, advice, and a way to share ideas with others in the same situation.

Taking care of yourself is very important. Working and studying at the same time can be tiring, so make sure you get enough sleep, eat well, and exercise. All the best.
