Hi, KC !

The last thing I ever was or could be would be a nurse, but I think that I can provide you with some advice and information that will help you know more about the work of an Anesthesiology Nurse. You also need to understand the academic path for this career to first decide if that is what you'd want to do.

You would go to Nursing School first. I advise, since you'd want to go into Anesthesiology Nursing eventually, that you obtain your Bachelors Degree in Nursing, not the Associates Degree. This would be a four year study in college. Once you obtain the Bachelors Degree, you apply for your nursing license. You then obtain work in critical care for experience. After meeting the experience requirement, you must apply to a nurse anesthesia program, which takes 3 years and you'd obtain your Doctorate of Nursing Practice. So the education process would be at least 7 years total.

You can look up Nurse Anesthetist jobs on employment websites and get a glimpse of what they do on the job. In short, they administer anesthesia and provide care before, during, and after surgical, therapeutic, diagnostic, and obstetrical procedures. More specifically, they conduct preoperative assessments, evaluate patients' medical histories, current medications, allergies, and underlying health conditions to identify potential risks and tailor anesthesia plans. They perform physical examinations, order and review diagnostic tests, and develop individualized anesthesia plans that determine the appropriate type of anesthesia—general, regional, or local—and the correct dosage of anesthetic agents. They participate at surgeries.

You may find the videos linked below to be helpful in obtaining more information about this career.

Keep in mind that every nurse goes into this field for a different reason. You'd have to find your own mission and passion for it. There is no typical day for this position. You would be expected to provide individualized care based on the patients you are assigned to and there are expected and unexpected things that happen with this work. Nursing School will help you understand the routine, pace and energy of this career. Someone else's experience is not going to be how your experience will be.

I hope this helps for a start during your exploration of this awesome career ! I wish you all the best !
