I wish to understand the career path to becoming an AI security expert.?

I am a student at a university in Korea who has been studying AI and security.
As there are currently no entry-level positions related to AI security available in Korea, I am curious whether such roles will be developed within the next two years, including during my military service.
I also wish to learn how to become an AI security expert.
This is because I enjoy studying AI and security.

Pursuing a career as an AI security expert is an excellent choice right now, as it's a rapidly growing field worldwide. As businesses adopt AI systems, they need experts who can protect these systems from attacks, misuse, or failures. Concerns about AI-related risks, such as data leaks and harmful decisions by autonomous systems, are increasing. This means there's a rising demand for specialists who know both AI and cybersecurity. Industry experts say AI vulnerabilities are becoming one of the fastest-growing risks in cybersecurity, prompting companies to invest more in this area. Even if there are currently fewer entry-level AI security jobs in some countries, the field itself is expanding.

This career path usually involves building two key skill sets. First, you need strong technical skills in computer science, networking, and cybersecurity. Second, you need knowledge of machine learning and AI. Most people don't start as "AI security experts" right away. A typical path involves studying computer science or cybersecurity, then gaining experience in roles like SOC analyst, security engineer, or machine learning engineer before specializing. Many professionals suggest a step-by-step learning approach: start with programming (especially Python), learn about operating systems and networks, study cybersecurity basics, and then explore machine learning and AI model security. This progression is important because AI security combines both fields.

Hello Choi,

It’s great that you enjoy both AI and security. This is a strong and future-proof combination. AI security experts focus on protecting AI systems from attacks, misuse, and data leaks as AI becomes part of important real-world systems.

To become an AI security expert, focus on building strong programming skills (especially Python), solid fundamentals in AI and machine learning, and core security knowledge like cryptography, secure coding, and network security.
