Marty’s Answer

I've hired hundreds of workers - what I look for in young applicants that lack job experience is attitude, manners and an interest in the company I work for. I can teach job related skills, but not attitude and interest. Be you and get hired -

First, think about what makes entrepreneurs stand out from other businesspeople. Are you always curious about spotting, understanding, and solving problems? Do you notice products or services that don't quite meet practical needs? When you see a problem, do you wonder how you could fix it?

Consider how engineers find cracks in water pipes under the street. Could you use a wireless camera to spot them? Could a device float, find the crack, and repair it? Is the challenge finding the crack or fixing it?

Why are pizza boxes designed the way they are? Could there be a better way to keep pizzas hot during delivery? Could a drone deliver them faster and hotter? Maybe the issue isn't the box but the delivery method.

If someone loses a limb in an accident, how do you replace it? How could you improve artificial limbs? Or could the body regenerate a new limb?

How can we improve education? Is the current way of teaching in schools the best? Or is the real issue how we learn? Would it be better if companies taught students how to apply theories to real-world problems?

Think about car batteries. Are stronger battery packs the answer? Or could the car's body itself act as a battery? Could a car be a battery on wheels?

Are you a risk-taker? Do you think differently from your friends? Do you have friends who see problems as opportunities?

Are you willing to fail? Failure is a way to learn. Entrepreneurs take risks and often fail before succeeding. Are you ready to be different?

Being an entrepreneur is about thinking and acting differently. On your resume, highlight times you've taken unique approaches to solve problems. Show your curiosity in action.

Stay curious and always be on the lookout to see, define, and solve problems.
