What is one of the most challenging things being a Criminal Investigator?

I am majoring in Criminal Justice, and I want to become a Criminal Investigator, and I want too know things that are challenging, and hard.

One of the most challenging aspects of a criminal investigation is maintaining the integrity of that investigation and avoiding all the things that can lead to a wrongful conviction; systematic or confirmation bias, mistaken eyewitness identification, noble cause corruption, etc.
Our goal is always, again always, justice for the crime victim.
If the wrong person has been arrested the real perpetrator is free to victimize others. I was a member of the Dallas Conviction Integrity Unit, when it was formed. In one of our exoneration cases the wrong person was convicted and the real offender went on to commit over thirty additional offenses in two states

Hi, for me one of the most challenging aspect of this line of work is the schedule and the amount of hours that are required. There is no set schedule per se, and the job does not end at 5pm. If you are conducting an investigation, or doing surveillance etc., you may work around the clock until the job is completed. This requires you to be away from home, often missing family events and milestones. With this being said, the personal reward and satisfaction you receive when you make an arrest or disrupt criminal activity that upholds public safety and national security is well worth it!
