How do I go about making connections that will help me in the long run ?
Hi, my name is Joanne and I am a rising college freshman! My question is about how do I go about making connections that will help me in the long run? Do I simply just make friends, or do I specify that my intent is to broaden my network for future purposes? Is this a common consensus amongst everyone else in the growing workforce that we all want to make connections?

This is a question that can kind of have anything for an answer! You really can do anything from get into exclusive clubs with high membership fees and attend posh events to volunteer at the local food bank around holidays. Think of organizations and events you want to participate in and the kind of people you want to be around, keep your profession forward and always seem interested in opportunities. Keep up with people you meet. Keep up with people you used to go to school with and work with. Cut out some time every month to call people and just say hey. Likes, DMs, congrats, etc on people's social media never hurts either.
Don't network on social media, network with people in real life. Don't try to find individual people on social media to meet, find events to attend and see people at those events.
It's really difficult to just say one thing you can do or that if you just do one thing it will suit you well. Try different things, find your crowd, and try to just keep up with everyone just to keep your opportunities open!
