What kind of opportunities are there to work remotely or abroad as a mechanical engineer?

I really want to travel the world, and at the same time, I'd still like to pursue mechanical engineering. I want to know if there's a field or job where I have to travel/where I can work from a different country.

Hi Longson,
There are plenty of opportunities! The opportunities that I can think of are in contracting firms to build large structures. So examples are:
Bechtel, Turner Construction, Kiewit Corporation, and Skanska USA. They hire mechanical engineers to travel to different sites around the world to setup large mechanical equipment.

Good luck!

Hi Longson,

Working in another country can be a truly rewarding experience. You get to dive into a new culture, explore its history, enjoy different customs, and try new foods.

While people are staying connected online, living abroad still offers unique opportunities. You can now work from the U.S. and easily share your projects and ideas over the internet, making international collaboration smoother

Large companies with global operations, like those in oil/gas, automotive, construction and electronics, often need engineers to travel and supervise work in their overseas locations. These experiences can be exciting and enriching.

When you get a new Apple device labeled "Designed in California, built in China, Mexico, or India," it’s a reminder of the global teamwork involved.

I hope you get the chance to travel and explore new places.

Best wishes,
Jerry L Van Norman, PE
