Great question! When I began college, I was in pre-med and dreamed of an internship with an infectious diseases doctor. Not knowing if he offered internships, I decided to email him directly. I shared my goals, interests, and how I could help in his lab. Even though he didn't have a formal program, he created one just for me. It was an incredible experience with a fantastic leader in the field. Don't hesitate to reach out to someone you admire and ask for opportunities. It could really pay off!
