What is web development ?

I am going to go to hacc soon for web development and i own a pc and everything as well as having a bit too much experience modding games. I wanted to know what i am rlly getting into and if AI will tale my job or possibly make it easier. I was hoping to eventually be able to work from home as well. I would rlly appreciate any feedback or advice from someone who has experience in the field

Web development is the process of building websites and web apps, including the visual parts people interact with (front‑end) and the behind‑the‑scenes logic that makes everything work (back‑end). You’ll learn HTML, CSS, JavaScript, databases, and how to turn ideas into functioning sites. Your game‑modding experience already gives you a strong foundation in problem‑solving and working with code.
AI won’t replace web developers, but it will make the job easier. Developers use AI to speed up coding, fix bugs, and brainstorm solutions, but humans are still needed for creativity, design, decision‑making, and building full projects. It’s one of the most remote‑friendly careers, so working from home is absolutely possible.
At HACC, expect hands‑on projects, lots of practice, and building a portfolio that shows employers what you can do. Consistent practice and learning to use AI as a tool will set you up well.

Your game modding background is a great asset as you start since troubleshooting code is already a huge part of a developer's day-to-day work. As for AI, it won't take your job, but it will change it instead of writing repetitive lines of code, you can use AI as a high-speed assistant while you focus on the big-picture and be a problem solver. Web development is highly remote-friendly, but because entry-level work-from-home roles are competitive, your main goal at school should be building a strong personal portfolio. By focusing on how databases, APIs, and systems connect, you will develop the exact high-value, independent skills that employers want and AI cannot replicate. Even if you have to stick it out for a while in an in person internship or entry level role very quickly you'll have a lot more flexibility when it comes to working remote. One of the biggest suggestions I have is not just succeed at work but have fun with it in your free time as well! Do some projects, post them on your LinkedIn and have them ready if a new company asks to see any of your work!

Web development can be considered the practice of building and deploying an application that contains the following components:
- Web UI
- Technologies to learn: UI Frameworks - Angular, React, Vue. Styling languages such as CSS, HTML. JavaScript, TypeScript.
- Server
- Technologies to learn: API Development, Database Management. C#, .NET, SQL.

The key to be successful in web development is to ensure you are building the right application. Working with the customer/user of the application is critical to understand how to build an application to meet their needs.

When it comes to AI in web development, AI is a force multiplier. It is used as a tool that boosts productivity and improves the overall developer experience. It shouldn't be viewed as something to take away web development jobs.

Web Development is a really critical part of learning on creating websites that visually represent what most of us interact with on a daily basis now. It makes a website functional and interactive by building UI screens, actionable events and logic behind the entire process flow you can learn that in Web Development. Since you mentioned you have experience in modding games. I would suggest you look into Computer Graphics along with Web development which would be really helpful and enhance your skills in that direction. AI wouldn't really replace your job, infact using it in a right way would really be helpful with coming up with new ideas and learning new topics and increase productivity.
