How to land a job without direct experience?

I recently graduated with a B.A. Criminal Justice. I have legal support and Victim contact experience from an internship and part-time job. I am extremely passionate about combatting human trafficking. I would love to work for a non-profit that supports victims and families of trafficking or abuse. I'm also open to any similar career path. I would also love to investigate these matter but I'm struggling to land a job. I have relevant course work (Human Trafficking, Crisis and Hostage Negotiation, Family Violence, Victimology) Any advice?

Bailey, you already have strong starting points because your legal support, victim contact, and internship experience show you can work in trauma-informed and people-centered roles. Focus on entry-level jobs like victim advocate, case management assistant, hotline advocate, legal assistant, program coordinator, court advocate, or social services assistant, since those often value passion, coursework, and related experience more than a perfect resume.

To improve your chances, tailor each application to show how your coursework in human trafficking, victimology, crisis negotiation, and family violence connects to the job. Also apply to nonprofits, shelters, family violence programs, campus victim services, and government or court-based victim assistance offices, because these are common pathways into trafficking-related work.

Hello Bailey, if you're looking to investigate/combat human trafficking you might explore your state's attorney general's office, or federal counterpart. Law enforcement, in conjunction with local municipal agencies are heavily focusing on human trafficking, and related crimes. You have a strong degree and have completed the proper coursework as it relates to your career path. If your ultimate goal is to work for a non-profit dealing with victims of human trafficking and have a difficult time finding paid employment, perhaps volunteering with such an organization would be a way to get your foot in the door and learn the ins and outs. Often times volunteers make the necessary connections should jobs open up and with your education you'd likely be a prime candidate.
