Can I work on medical assistant certification during high school?

I really want to be a medical assistant while I’m working on my bachelors degree. I’m a senior in high school with 3 classes and I was just gonna see if I could start on the 9 month program now so that I could start a job next fall? I don’t want an associate degree in medical assisting but just the certification #work #medicalassistant #highschool

Pursue your dreams! wherever they may take you. Just make sure you do not overload yourself with course work, job and other interests (such as sports).  Proceed at a pace so that you do not overwhelm yourself since this may result in you getting discouraged. And you do not want to put yourself in a discouraged situation.

Toni’s Answer

Hi Erica! I attained my MA certification after high school graduation, but I was in more than 3 courses my senior year. If you feel that you are up to the challenge then I say go for it, you will gain valuable skills that will look great as experience on a resume and the courses will help you with your college courses as well. Be prepared to learn medical terminology and the functions of the body systems as well as hands on skills labs. Starting your career early will definitely give you an advantage over the others and it shows that you are hungry for what you want.

Good luck.
