Lauren’s Answer

Hi Adam!

I'm not in the field, but I used to work for a great nonprofit that supports students going into the transportation technician field. They share awesome stories from people working in diesel and auto, have scholarships, info on schools/trainings, tips, cool experiences, etc. Check out www.techforcefoundation.org!

Rube’s Answer

I am not a diesel mechanic, but a friend of mine is one. He told me that he enjoys the amount of work he gets and doesn't have to worry about hours getting cut. He loves his job, so the fact that he can get 12+ hours a day for him makes him love it. He believes that it doesn't feel like work because he has a passion for it. Yes, certain repairs can sometimes be tough and frustrate one, but at the end of the day, he is doing what he loves. He works in big machinery such as CAT and KABOTA. He enjoyed using and testing out the equipment and says it's a blast when new "toys" come into the shop that has been upgraded or a new type of machine. I remember him talking about a remote-controlled excavator a while back, and the picture he showed me made it look like he was playing a video game.
