If there is one thing that I learned in college achieving a major in criminal justice is that they teach these topics to everyone in the academy. You don't need to have a CJ degree to become a cop (at least not where I'm from) so its also very important to bring a set of skills to the table that can be useful in the field that they don't teach at the academy. Psychology is a great start and also social work. Working with people is a very important skill to have. Anyone can achieve a degree in criminal justice but that doesn't make you a cop. Go get skills that are going to help you better communicate with people and deescalate situations..

Some important skills to possess would be: Decision Making, Facilitating Discussion, Managing stress, Problem Solving, Research, Teamwork/Collaboration & Attention to detail. This is just some, there are many more that can enhance your skills and ability in criminal justice.
