Emily,

According to National Universities Rankings, Princeton, Harvard, and Yale are currently the top three post-secondary education in the United States. In preparation for law school, gaining admission into a 4-tier university will make your law school application look really good. However, keep in mind there are other factors such as your LSAT score, essay, and resume that are put into consideration too. In a nutshell, you do not have to graduate from the best college to get into a good law school or be a lawyer.

Sarah’s Answer

Emili, I agree with Rachel. In addition to the factors Rachel mentioned, law schools pay a lot of attention to your undergraduate record (grades), so you want to go to a college that will challenge you and offer you the opportunity to excel (Malcolm Gladwell's "David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits, and the Art of Battling Giants" has a lot of learnings, including on finding the right "fit" for an educational institution). Also, in order to be a successful lawyer and do well on the LSATs, you need to hone your reading comprehension, writing, and math/logic skills. A reputable undergraduate institution should serve you well; just be sure to focus in on those areas of study, among others. Good luck with your studies and career!
