Hi Daniel. Thank you for your question. When I graduated from high school, I wanted to be a journalist. I was certain at the time I would become a great print journalist in media. However, after one year in college, I realized I didn't have much liking for the journalism and fortunately applied for a phone company. I had to learn the value of money and credit over years but point is over time shortly after, I realized my passion was hostage negotiation. Completing my schooling, and still working full time, I realized I didn't desire to be a traditional cop before a hostage negotiator. Conjointly, I developed strong fevour and eagerness toward investigations. Further, I then went on to value social sciences, use my negotiation abilities and schooling to advance in business for 20 years. I knew, I still wanted to protect and save lives but I used all I learned to always constantly self-educate myself. Point is, it's ok if you change your mind a few times once you start college, find your niche. Never be afraid to ask questions of money or decisions from others with experience. And guess what? I know you will be great!! The wise Frederick Douglass said, "if there is no struggle, there is no progress."

I was always interested in math, accounting was a natural extension of this. I also had a professor who had previously been in the industry. His life experience that he brought to the classroom really peaked my interest. Find something you are passionate about and then go from there.

I was pretty good in all subjects in HS and thought I wanted to be a doctor before I went to college. Once I went to college I realized the pre-med grind was not for me so I switched my major over to business as a fallback which was okay. I later got an MBA in finance and now I have ended up in the accounting field which I think suits my personality. I don't have an accounting degree and I'm not a CPA but the MBA I earned opened up a lot of doors for me. Nowadays most people switch careers several times but the sooner you can get focused on a career that you want the better. Specialists do best in the job market.
