How much do you get paid as a : 1) police officer and 2) sheriff in California starting off?

Do different regions pay more and is there a benefit to joining one over the other? #police #law-enforcement

Hey Josh! I'm not familiar with the topic but a quick Goggle search shows that the average pay is here:

Depending on experience it will vary obviously and this other website shows pay by state:

It seems that the average salary is $96,660 and starting cadets in LA are around $59,717 and $83,018 in San Francisco. You have to factor in cost of living and the income tax since these are skewed. Good luck! I'm sure Google can give you some better websites if you dig around.

California typically has salaries associated with the area. For example, San Jose has the highest starting salary of a police officer in the entire country. It is over $100,000. That is due to San Jose and the surrounding are being one of the most expensive places to live. The sheriff's department is going to give you less pay than that typically, no matter where you go. They will deal with similar crimes, but they will also run the county jail. If you don't want to work anywhere near a jail, I would advise against the sheriff's department. They will most likely require you to spend a year or two working in a jail.
