What is the most exciting part of your job in computer security?

Working for a Security vendor like Symantec is both challenging and rewarding because I meet new clients almost everyday. The exciting part is trying to fit the pieces together when a client has a security problem and is looking for a solution. Finding, demonstrating and implementing the solution is very cool. But closing the deal meaning selling the software to fit the clients solution is many times a thrill. This is because its like a race or playing a sport because you have many people wanting to help you with the solution and many competitors trying to beat you. I really enjoy the teamwork in developing and selling our solutions and it's like a slam dunk when you win and the customer picks you. So the excitement is not always finding a security flaw or security issue, the excitement is when you block the attack with one of your solutions that you designed.

The best part is the challenge and the feel good factor after securing the people and companies.

You'd be surprised what an exciting industry it is. There are new threats and challenges facing people all over the world today. Cyber criminals are always coming up with new ways to steal information or money from companies or people every minute of every day. As the world becomes more connected through our personal devices, security is essential to ensure that you can do what you want to do in the world without the surprise of an empty bank account, or identity theft, or other surprise attacks. Another reason I think it is exciting, is that the industry is ever-changing. New technology and innovations are being introduced every day, with security implications that need to be addressed to keep people safe. The sky is the limit on what we can imagine, create, and ultimately protect.
