Is acting an ideal career choice?

I have dreams of making it big, but everyone frowns upon the idea. They tell me I'll starve until I get a gig or I won't become famous. #acting #theatre #film-acting #drama

Alexis’s Answer

No, acting is not an ideal career choice.

Dentistry is so much more secure.

Look, you have to understand that neither of the things you mentioned are likely to happen. It is unlikely you will starve before you get an acting job, but it's just as unlikely that you'll be famous. Those are just the numbers.

I also started acting hoping I would be famous. But as I learned more about acting and theater and telling stories, I realized being famous was an empty goal. It'd be great, but you have to be working towards something else.

If you really love acting, or at least think you do, learn all you can about it, do as much of it as possible. And if you happen to become famous along the way, cool.
