There is a similar topic here, though a lot of the advice is about college subjects: https://careervillage.org/questions/2211/what-classes-should-you-take-generally-to-get-ready-for-med-school

In high school, make sure you take science and math courses, like algebra, biology, and chemistry. Check with colleges and/or your state to determine what other classes are required in high school to graduate, but you also likely need to take a few years of English and history along with your high-level math and science courses to show your readiness for college.

Hi there! Answering this question from 2026, but I wanted to provide some perspective from an updated point of view in case anyone was digging back for some advice. There are lots of ways to prepare in high school to become someone in the medical field. If given the chance for electives, I would opt for any sciences or mathematics as those will help you prepare for your college-level courses rooted in those subjects. Think courses like: Anatomy and Physiology, Zoology/Animal Biology, Immunology, Statistics or Pre-Calc/Calculus, etc. I would also recommend looking into internships or shadowing opportunities in your community. Is there someone with the job you're wanting that would let you come follow for a few hours or a day to see what it's like working in their field? That is also valuable in not only learning more about your interests, but it also allows you to network and work on connections for future letters of recommendation. Wishing you well!
