How difficult is it to change careers in the medical field?

I've always been interested in becoming a pediatrician due to my never ending love for children. However, I fear that once in the field I will not like what I do. Recently, the ER has caught my attention and I was wondering if there was a pediatric section in the ER? #pediatrics #pediatrician #emergency-room #medicine #hospital-and-health-care

There are separate children ER's! You will go through your schooling and residency. You can focus on ED and peds. If you decide to do nursing instead of pediatrician or ED doc, nursing is easy to switch paths and go say from peds to med surg, etc, as long as you have some experience or willing to learn. Many career opportunities are waiting for you!

Hi, Janitza.
Glad to know your interest in pediatrics. So as far as the pediatric emergency room jobs. There is a pediatric emergency sub specialist title. And children’s hospitals across the country have pediatric emergency rooms so you can work as a pediatric emergency room physician if you have credentials for it.
As far as changing the field from General Pediatrics to pediatric emergency room you need to finish fellowship in pediatric emergency. But as a pediatrician you can still work in the emergency rooms at some hospitals who does not require pediatric emergency fellowship.
I hope this answers your questions.
Good luck.
