Prospects of finding employment in a developed country with a qualification in Development Studies

Hi, I aim to do a Master's in International Development Studies, but first wish to know what the prospects of finding employment in a developed country are with this kind of a qualification. Development Studies tend to focus on aspect of development which find application in lands that are yet developing, hence I ask this question. Kindly advise. #JULY20

That's a good question. Once you have had a chance to talk with your parents and career counselor or most recent professors, follow-up with research on intermediary steps to working abroad if you are just starting your career.

For instance, are there large foundations, international NGO's or multi-lateral organizations that are seeking paid interns or new graduates?

In other words, would it make sense to gain some work experience in international development before doing your Masters? Once you enroll into a Masters program, strive to land quality fellowships in strategic places (companies, international cities, regions) that will enhance your portfolio. A great fellowship in Africa could still be a launching pad to working in Europe or North America.

Narrow-down your list of target countries. Identify what companies or organizations have linkages in both South Africa and your target country.

Good luck, stay hydrated and take good care of yourself,
