Maddie’s Answer

Hey Esmerelda!

I think what interests me most about be a nurse is that I'm always learning something new. There are also so many different opportunities you can have as a nurse. Currently, I work in an ICU, but in the future I am thinking about becoming a wound care specialist or even getting my Master's Degree so I can teach. There are so many things you can do with a Nursing Degree.

As for what makes me excited, I think the biggest thing is being able to be there for my patients at a time that's very difficult for them. Many times I find myself looking forward to the moments I can sit and hold my patient's hand and just listen to their story. Procedures and wound care are also pretty exciting. Seeing a patient go home is definitely one of the best feelings as well!

Good luck if Nursing is the path you choose!

Suzanne’s Answer

Hello Esmeralda!
This is Sue and I am a retired cancer nurse. Nursing still, after 35 years, makes me very excited for the following reasons:

1. Ongoing new knowledge regarding nursing measures and medical improvements
2. The variety of ways that human beings respond to illness as well as wellness
3. The very close and interesting relationships that develop with some patients and how those trusting relationships may lead to better health outcomes
4. The personal satisfaction of attempting to improve the human condition
5. The many career opportunities for registered nurses
6. The ability to provide expert service as a volunteer

I hope you receive many more responses for such a great question!

Best,
Sue, RN

Tequila’s Answer

Thank you for the question. I have a curious mind. I like to know why things are as they are. I like biological science and the details of how our body reacts to different invaders. The education I received getting my Master's Degree help me satisfy my curiosity and thirst for learning.
Nursing allows me to see how science works in us. There is a sense of order in chaos when working with patients. It's rewarding to see the immediate outcomes of your efforts. Seeing extremely sick people leave the hospital is great to see because I get to see how science works. It's helped me in taking care of myself.

Hailey’s Answer

Esmeralda,

Being a nurse is exciting in so many different ways! You are constantly learning and no day is the same. I think you will find that being a nurse is rewarding in so many ways, but mostly that you get to meet and care for so many different patients that come from different backgrounds, cultures, religions, and beliefs. It is amazing! I worked in Level 1 Trauma center in the Emergency department for 2 years and it was such a great learning experience! I learned to care for so many patients in their most vulnerable time.

Cinthya’s Answer

As a nurse the most interesting thing is that everyday is different, never the same and you will never be bored.
There’s always lots to learn, continue to grow professionally and personally.
You don’t have to stick just one thing, there’s lots of opportunities in nursing. Also the advances in technology and medicine are incredible, and caring for the most medically complex, chronic patients and assisting them to recover their health is so rewarding.
All of your successes and those patients whose lives you touch are the rewards of a nursing career.
