Hi! I'm Ms. Lambert at the International Community School. My 4th graders have a few questions and I'd like to share your advice with them. Thanks in advance!

Hi Class!

You should define what success is to you. Do not look at what the world thinks a successful person is because we all have our own dreams. You can write down things you want to achieve and start learning the steps to achieve those things!

You will be successful!!

Hello I would recommend that you don’t but to much pressure on yourself. Pick an occupation that you think you will enjoy doing, you can always change your mind. I personally left school at 16 and started my career in a factory but decided that it wasn’t what I wanted to do and went back to night school to get further education. Hope this helps!

My mom taught me to always do my best and that success will follow. I did not really understand how that could be true when I was younger, but today, I think it was great advice. Success does not come easily and typically does not fall in your lap - you must work for it.

Success comes in many forms and is evaluated differently by each person, so if you want to be successful you must work hard and know what you're trying to achieve

The key is to figure out what needs to happen to be successful. Do you need to study more? Do you need a tutor or to ask more questions in class? Do you need to practice? Do you need to focus? Are you working with people who can help you become successful (for instance - your teacher)? Do you need to block negative attitudes/comments from those saying you will not be successful?

My suggestion that you not add undue pressure to yourself, but to simply approach each day by doing your best. If you do your best, success will follow.

Remember that if at first you don't succeed, try and try again!

Lavezz’s Answer

You should define success by the way it makes you feel. Success can be defined in so many ways. I would start by thinking of what you want to achieve personally. Make it about you and not what others may think. As long as it makes you happy and you accomplish the things you wanted to do, no matter how big or small.

Good luck and you're already on the road to success!

David’s Answer

Zig-Zglar a famous sales trainer used to say ... Success is believing you can. If you believe you can, you will succeed. Self-belief doesn’t come naturally to everyone, so if you’re able to tell yourself that you can achieve the goals in your plans, you’re doing great. When people don’t believe in you, you still need to work on your own confidence! Others say the true measure of success is how happy you are!

Always remember this important thing. There will always be people the "have" more than you! Find your balance.

Kim’s Answer

"Success" is living your life the way YOU want to live it. It's okay to not get a new phone every year, or to drive a fancy sports car. Some people spend their money on appearances, and, if that is important to THEM, then that is okay. Others spend it traveling, or on hobbies, or on donating to those less fortunate. That's okay too!

Although right now you might be thinking, "I'll never get married, I'll never have kids" that changes for many people when they get older! So, success at that time might mean being able to provide for your family.

Success in your career doesn't necessarily mean being a lawyer, doctor, or astronaut. There are lots of people who work in "logistics" who are very happy with their jobs. They are responsible for moving things from one place to another, such as in warehouses, Amazon, UPS, etc.

So, if you are happy with your personal life and work life, then, you are successful.

But, since at this time you really don't know where your career will take you, I strongly encourage you to take all the classes you can and do well in them. You never know when you will need them. Try to remember the things you learn, even after you take the test, because you might need it again some day!

Ravikumar’s Answer

Hello Student - Good question, you wont know the answer to the question but you can always increase your chances to succeed. What you should always think about is if the things you do/learn today, will they be helpful in the future? For example, you are in 4th grade -- the math that you learn will lay the foundation for many important concepts that you will learn in the future and that in turn will help you make the decisions for your life - do you have enough money to buy that new car, a new house, college education?

If you have a growth mindset, you will always learn to grow and build a habit of learning that will increase your chances to be successful.
