Not for the doctor's themselves per se. There is usually a billing and coding specialist on staff or they outsource it

To become an MD or DO, you don't need to know that. However, it doesn't hurt to know some basic. When you become a physician and want to run your own office, you can apply this knowledge. It can also be something to talk about during med school interview to show that you are versatile.
