Taylor, applying for that first job out of college, while a little nerving, is such an exciting and rewarding time! Where possible, I suggest applying directly to the companies of interest to you. Try and avoid using a staffing agency. You can begin your search for jobs via Linkedin, Indeed, and many other job search platforms. If you are looking in a specific area you might also try Craigslist. And, use your university's job placement platform as well. If you do not have a Linkedin profile I suggest that you set one up and include a link to it in your email signatures and on your resume. Your goal should be to have several interviews so that you can see what your best options are and so that you can present yourself to the interviewer with confidence and also showcase your communication skills. Be courteous in all of your correspondence but also be assertive and follow up, as needed, before and after an interview. Many of the hiring decision makers are busy addressing their other day-to-day tasks and may not get back to you immediately. If more than a week goes by without hearing back from the interviewer, feel free to follow up.

Great question. First of all congratulations in graduating college!
There are many great ways for you to apply to jobs coming out of college. Examples include through LinkedIn, google jobs, Indeed and even finding a job hunter to help you find a job in your field of choice. Like Kentrice said, many times applying to jobs can be challenging. Apply to the field of choice and look for jobs throughout those websites I mentioned above. Think of it as for every 10 jobs you apply, you may hear back from 2. So make sure you apply to all the jobs you like.
Also, check your LinkedIn for people that went to your school and are working in the industry you like. Many times, they offer to help as they went to your same alma mater.

Taylor this is a great question. Job hunting is hard, but if you can position yourself to be invaluable, you will be able to take advantage. The first thing you should do is Identify the industry you want to be in. Then curate your LinkedIn account branding yourself by connecting with people in that same industry. Is there a company you like? Great! Research the company on LinkedIn. Find out the department you want to be in and search for people in that department that can eventually advocate for you after connecting. Also, reach out to recruiters from the company or general recruiters for the industry. Connect with them. Not just for wanting a job but just to be interested in them. Like their posts. Re-share the ones you find insightful, and comment on their content! Folks like that. When you create connections organically, it's easy to transfer that to an opportunity.

The other day I saw you can sign up for an Amazon student account that will give you FREE 6 months. Included in it is a FREE LinkedIn Premium access for the same 6 months. If you come from a minority background. Sign up for (Jopwell) www.jopwell.com, (SEO-Sponsors for Educational Opportunity ) www.seo-usa.org, and (MLT-Management Leadership for Tomorrow ) https://mlt.org/career-prep/ and INROADS https://inroads.org/
These are organizations that will be an advocate on behalf of you and that can help you launch your career. As its being your last semester it might be too late for INROADS and SEO but definitely reach out to Jopwell). They have a high success rate in placing people in companies. If you going to apply directly, you might as well apply through them. You have a better shot of your resume being looked at. Reach out to Jopwell and MLT folks on LinkedIn. They will help you tremendously.
Lastly, block at least 1 hour a day to do this until graduation or possibly get the job you want. Finding a Job by itself is a JOB. Its hard and time-consuming. You must be willing to invest the time to get what you want. Hope this helps Taylor. Good luck.

First, consider what your priorities are. Is the field or industry your primary factor? Where you will live? The hours you will work, or the benefits you will receive? Knowing this will narrow down your possibilities and make your decision less daunting. Ideally, try to find companies that have clear promotional paths so you always know what your next goal should be. And recognize the trade-offs that come with certain choices. For example, living in New York City is fun but comes with the trade-off of a tighter budget and more job competition.
If you are interested in a technical field, look for a company with a comprehensive training program. If you're open to the idea, get an internship in your field of interest, while potentially working another job to make ends meet. A lot of people jump right into their first job and end up disliking it but feeling too attached to leave - don't be nervous to try something new.

Congratulations on this being your last semester in college! I would try to find internships in your career field. That will be a great addition to your resume. I know it can be challenging trying to juggle work and school at the same time. There are some jobs like department stores that will work with your school schedule until you finish. I would start with trying to get an internship and if not defiantly try a department store.

Hello! Great to hear that you're thinking about your future. I'd try to think about the courses you took and enjoyed in your time in college and figure out which ones have jobs that align with those. Look out for companies that are hiring for new grads. There's a lot of them. Ex: Business Development Representative if you're interested in sales. Staffing companies hire new grads for recruiter jobs. I hope this helps!

Definitely lean on any resources available at your school in the career center. They can give you support with resume writing, interview tips, etc. They can also make recommendations for companies/types of work based on your major, your strengths/preferences, and other students' past experiences.
If your school uses a website like Handshake, be sure to set-up your profile and use that as a platform to search for jobs. They will be tailored to early career talent like yourself. I also really like the platform WayUp. You can set-up a profile on WayUp, no matter what career platform your school might use. It's a great way to see a broad range of companies and the jobs they have posted.
Job searching can be both exciting and draining, so be sure to practice self-care along the way. Good luck with your search!

Hi Taylor,
In my opinion, LinkedIn is the best job searching tool out there. Usually the job postings list the person who created the job post so you can shoot them a message after applying for a role to make you stand out. Recruiters are VERY active on LinkedIn so make sure your profile is updated. This how I found my current job.

Hi Taylor! Congratulations on reaching your last semester! I know it can be exciting but also stressful when thinking about what comes after graduation. I would definitely reach out to your career services department through your university! Depending on your degree, they may have connections with companies to assist with getting you an interview. While I would certainly try to use your degree, be open to the possibility of doing something different just to start out. You don't know what you don't know so consider areas where you could adapt what you learned from your degree even if it isn't what you thought you'd be doing.

Great question Taylor - Definitely do your own independent research before applying anywhere. Look for things like day to day tasks, overall work environment, compensation, benefits, etc. Find something you are passionate about and would love to do everyday Monday-Friday. If you are unsure of what you want to do, ask yourself, "What am I passionate about?". Once you have your answer, find something that has a direct relation to whatever that may be. Think about classes in school you've taken in the past that seemed to really grab your attention. Once all of this is done, be sure to utilize resources like LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, etc. These are platforms that make it very easy to find jobs in your area, interests, and everything in between!

1. LinkedIn - This is a professional website with many job openings
2. Career Portal of the corporates - Usually corporates would post their openings in the own websites.
3. Career Office of the college
4. Recruitment Agency websites
5. If you have interest to work in any specific corporates, you can also prepare an email explaining why you are have the interest and your cv sending to their HR department.
