If your talking glazing compound there a lots of advantages.
1. easy to apply via tub or tube
2. depending on weather conditions, stays semi-flexible. Older stuff turns rock hard quickly. Newer-more expensive stuff dries to like thick play do.
3. easy to clean up with a wet finger or rag.
4. Small amount, like a pint, typically covers- using a standard 1/2 inch bead- 4-5 standard windows.
5. Cost is reasonable
6. lasts a long time. Most often air tight & water proof after it cures/dries.
