How many years of College do I need to get my PhD?

I want to pursue my career in psychology to become a marriage therapist.

Thank you comment icon it can take anywhere between 8 and 12 years. but some colleges can get you your masters in 5 years instead of 6, which could slightly lower the time it takes you to get a phd Payton

I am a bit conflicted by your question in that I don't know which one I should be answering. In order to get you PhD you would need a bachelor's and a masters degree in most cases. In others you could be pursing a master's all while working to obtain your PhD. I hope this was helpful.

Linda Ann’s Answer

Nine-to-10 years; 4 years for the BS and at least 5 years for a PsyD or PhD in clinical psychology.

Are you aware there are master's level social workers and family therapists and Licensed Profwssio al Counselors? These programs for grad school are less competitive than doctoral programs.

Good luck!
