How do you start an online buisness?

Hello my name is Derek and I am wondering how can I use my knowledge and what I am good at to start selling products online. And even maybe make some extra cash.

Thank you comment icon The first thing you need to do is to check what you have, what are you good at. if you have some channel for cheap goods, or if you have any skill that can change to cash. if you dont have all of them, you can find someone who has, and you join him as a group. what you can provide, free time for sale, good communication with customer, good skill of shopping apps, initiate fund for this project...... After those questions, I think you must know what you can do. June Wang

Hi Derek:

The first step in committing to a new online business is identifying what you're good at in order to turn what is maybe just an interest into something profitable. I would suggest starting with developing a business plan, research business structures (LLC, corporation, sole proprietorship) to see if you want it to be legitimate if it becomes successful, and then starting a website. There are plenty of website platforms that you can use for fee or a small fee that will build your website and customize it.

After the first few steps are taken, it's important to think about marketing strategies and how you're going to get your name out there. This could be done through paying for ad space, social media, word of mouth to your closest friends/family. If you're selling goods, you'll need to figure out payment methods, this could be Square or other card-reading software/hardware.

Depending on what you're selling too, you could even get onto a website such as Etsy or eBay to begin with to build up your own clientele then expand with your own website as it grows. This eliminates having to pay for card-reading software, running a website, etc.
