What is a good thing to start with if someone wants to pursue a career in Music?

I am currently in high school and still have a couple years to make a decision, and music has always been a passion of mine, but it seems like an overwhelming career path to pursue at the start.

Thank you comment icon i'm also in highschool (9th grade), but i have a person who could record songs, but you could use band labs and record it yourself with a microphone. you can find type beats on youtube just search "pop type beat" or "taylor swift type beat" yk. (whatever your style is) and then just record it :) i hope i helped Mattie

Let your passion drive you and work hard at it. I started playing drums in 10th grade and my love and passion for playing music has been and continues to be my driving force in my career as a jazz drummer, composer, bandleader and educator. If you are truly committed to your passion, you will figure out how to make it work. Plus there are so many different ways to have a career in music: performance, composer/songwriter, production, business, marketing, etc.

One small way to learn a bunch about being a musician to make money could be to check out profiles of music teachers on places like Lessons.com and Thumbtack.com. You can read pretty interesting things from people who are competing in the marketplace to offer their services musically, and you can start to form your own opinions and figure out more of what you might be interested in.
